Growing Organic Carnations: How Simple Can It Get?
Getting anxious on whether to try growing carnations in your garden? You don’t need to. Growing carnations does not require you some kind of expertise or experience to accomplish it productively. You may probably need to know the basics but there is definitely no special effort or training required.
Organic Carnations
Most Carnations are perennials, but there are various annual varieties, too. Carnations are called either by their Latin name, Dianthus, or referred to as Pinks, mostly by gardeners. They are well-liked as any other flowers fondly used in floral arrangements such as bouquets or corsages.
Organic carnations can grow from 18 to 20 inches tall. They produce a spicy clove-like scent and commonly appear in white, pink, and red, although there are floral shops that modify their color with just about anything.
Growing organic carnations
Carnations can be easily planted and grown in containers, flowerbeds, or in soil. You can plant them straight into your garden but make sure to do this early in the spring. On the other hand, Carnations can also be grown indoors and then transplant them later in the garden. When grown indoors, make sure that they get full sunlight.
When you start sowing them in your garden, make sure that the soil is rich and well-drained, moist but not too wet. It is best to water them once or twice a week during dry periods. You can apply a general purpose fertilizer 2-3 times a month. Carnations can be from 16 to 24 inches tall when grown in the garden, a unique characteristic that makes them useful as edging or borders.
It is a relief to know that insect and disease problems are minimal when growing Carnations. It is always helpful though to act early at the very sight of any of these problems. Treatment can be done by using repellents, fungicide, or insecticides.
So, still feeling anxious about it? Why remain when you can actually start on sowing and growing your Carnations at any time and in any preferred area but keep in mind the basics on how to effectively grow them. Once set up, your Carnations will grow, flower, and reproduce from spring and all the way through summer.
